Hello and welcome to our latest Newsletter. In this months issue we have some even more exciting news about Lancome Lipsticks a special Lavender offer and we are featuring a quintessentially British designer.

More Lancome Lippies

We will start off by telling you about our laLancome Lippytest arrivals (this is the exciting bit . . .). We have managed to get even more shades of the wonderful Lancome Magnetic Lipsticks (we told you about these last month)- these are a fantastic range of Lipsticks made by the extremely desirable, stylish and ever popular house of Lancome, they are very innovative because they have "magnetic qualities" - after you have applied your lipstick, you can then just press your lips together and your lip colour is instantly refreshed, renewed and revitalised and vibrant as ever, we also have the Brilliant Magnetic Lipsticks which work on the same principle but are very sheer and will leave your lips shiny, sparkly and glossy - these really are sheer luxury in every way and are also really lightweight - we now have a total of 24 shades available, definitely a shade for everyone. Lancome lipsticks normally retail for £16.00 each and we are selling them at just £6.50 to £7.50 each. These are a real bargain. We also have Lancome Lip Dimension Lip colour just in. These super lip colours give you vibrant colour and shape your lips by making them look plumper (they contain a colour reflective pigmentation which gives this effect) So if you have always wanted pouty lips this is the lip product you should plump for (see what we did there????) Oh dear somebody stop me!!! Ahem, anyway . . . here is the link, just click on it to see all things Lancome . . .

our featured designer

Our featured designer this month is the quintessentially British Paul Smith.

Paul Smith is best known for his clothing designs and stripes are his trademark. He has released some of the most popular fragrances around and he always adds a lovely touch to his fragrances. It was no surprise then when he released his second fragrance - Paul Smith Extreme in a gorgeous stripey box.

Also did you know that . . . .

His third fragrance - Paul Smith London has notes of incense and he designed the bottle especially so that it would be remniniscent of apothecary bottles.

PAul Smith FloralHis next release was Paul Smith Story - just for men and this one comes in a bottle shaped like a book and the prinitng on the box was taken from an old Olivetti typewriter that he had in his office.

Then he reinvented Paul Smith London for women and released it for the younger woman in a similar bottle but made it more funky invoking memories of the 70s (pictured left).

Paul SMith RoseAnd finally, his latest release is Paul Smith Rose. The most romantic story of them all - apparently his wife had a rose especially cultivated for him as a gift and named it the Paul Smith Rose. Paul Smith then used this very rose as the main note in his latest fragrance and built a new perfume around it (how romantic!!!!! Who said that love was dead??)

And now for the final and most interesting fact of them all . . . . .Did you know that Yu Yu Beaute currently have all of these fragrances in stock at rock bottom prices - for all things Paul Smith - just click here:

The history of perfume and What is new. . . . .

Hello and welcome to our latest Newsletter. In this months issue we have some interesting facts about the history of perfume and some gorgeous new items in stock.

The History of Perfume

We will start off by giving you our condensed version of the history of perfume – and it is an ancient history.

Apparently primitive perfumery began with the burning of gums and resins and was used in ancient rites and religious ceremonies and so perfume was born.

The word perfume actually comes from the Latin expression per fumum – which means “through the smoke” and that is exactly how the ancients got it – by burning those resins.

The earliest records of perfume are from ancient Egypt. Apparently when Tutankhamen’s tomb was opened there were over 3000 jars of perfume found in there and believe it or not some of them still smelled after more than 3, 000 years!!!! (It would be good if modern perfumes lasted that long).

The next oldest records of perfume are actually found in the bible and were again used in worship, there was perfumed oil used for anointing the priests and also incense that was burned as part of their religion. The exact recipe is still found in the bible in the book of Exodus chapter 30!!! It contained frankincense and myrrh (among other things) – interestingly these ingredients are found in the original Escada perfume, designed by Margaretha Ley – We wonder if it smells similar to that recipe that was used so many thousands of years ago?!

Perfumes were also used to embalm dead bodies in preparation for burial. At around this same time they were also used as disinfectants and deodorants.

Later in Roman times (around the year 54 CE) it is reported that the emperor Nero spent around £52,000.00 in order to perfume a party!! There were pipes hidden in the dining rooms and the guests were all sprayed with fine mists of perfumed water.

From the 7th century the Chinese invented the perfumed sachet and later the Ottomans used Roses in fine fragrance.

The French revolutionised perfumery a bit during the 18th century and apparently the court of Louis XV was named the perfume court – and they used to put the stuff everywhere – on their clothes, gloves, fans on the furniture and on themselves – a very good idea indeed, as they needed to disguise the fact that they never washed very often!!!

4711 cologne

Even though perfume is associated with the French the biggest revolution was actually in Germany!!! – In a small part of Germany near Achen, the Germans invented a new perfume and they named it after the place it was discovered and thus Cologne was born!!! They used to use it in the bath, they mixed it with wine and drunk it (Yuk!) they used to put in on a lump of sugar and ate it as a mouthwash (double yuk!) and they used it medicinally as well – in poultices for dressing wounds (ouch!) and when giving enemas too (double ouch!!! – not that any of us here at Yu Yu Beaute have ever needed to have one of those!).

Finally, the first perfume (pictured above) as we know it today was released by an Italian in Germany and it is now known as the eau de cologne . . . . . . (drum roll please) . . . . . . 4711 or in German –Siebenundvierzigelf – we think it sounds better in English. . . . Anyhow, nowadays perfumery is a multi billion pound business and there are more varieties than you could shake a stick at.

Caesar Augustus

Yu Yu Beaute

Newsletter

In this issue we have some news about some of our latest products, a super special offer, the results of our competition, some interesting tidbits about fine fragrance and . . . . some err alternative answers to exam questions. . .

First of all, Did you know that the month of August was named after Roman Emperor Augustus??? This is a photo of him - doesn't he look handsome? Do not believe a word of it!! Apparently, he was toothless and had very bad skin! (Maybe he would have benefitted from using some of our Neutrogena foundation - we have one that helps get rid of spots and also one that improves skins elasticity - here is the link - At around a third of the reccommended retail price - these are definately worth a look.: http://www.yuyubeaute.com/neutrogena-m-157.html?osCsid=9e282ef1c396a832fac368b35bff583d

Anyhow, to get back to our friend Augustus. . . . It is rumoured that the months of the year should have 30 days and 31 days each in turn - so for example, April has 30 days, May has 31, June has 30, July 31 and so on and so forth. But Augustus was not happy that his month of the year only had 30 days and the month that was named after Julius Caesar (July) had 31, so he pinched a day from February and made sure that August also had 31 days. Having said all that, Augustus did do some good things for Rome that lasted for many years and after his death he was revered.

Anyway enough about the ancient Romans (don't you just love their sculptures though - they were actually pinched from the Greeks who did them first) OK enough procrastination (come on tell the truth - you are really impressed that we know such a big word aren't you?) We just have to tell you about our offer and who the winner of our competition is, because if we don't we are liable to have an accident.

For the month of September and October we will be including an Yves Rocher, Effervescent scented bath tablet in every order. The scents available are Lime or Tangerine, but you do not know which one you will get, so when you open your parcel it will jump out and yell SURPRISE! (or something like that).

Now for the results of our competition . . . If you remember we were going on about celebs who have released their own fragrance, and we asked you for a list of celebs with their own fragrance (not designers like Stella McCartney, Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent etc). Well our winner is . . . . (drumroll please) . . .

V. Smith

who will be getting her Elizabeth Arden Tote Bag filled with goodies very soon. There are samples in there and body lotions, body washes and loads of other goodies too. So congratulations, and we hope that you enjoy your bag and all the goodies that are in it. We know that you will be smelling as fragrant as a flower and have skin as soft as a baby's bum very soon.

Here is V. Smith's list of celebs with their own fragrance (it is not definitive):

shilpa shetty

and

Well done - by the way we also had Christina Aguilera, Antonio Banderas and Isabella Rosselini and before you all send loads of mails asking - we did double check and amazing as it may seem, yes Donald Trump did release his own fragrance too!!!! (we wonder who bought it? What next Eau de John Major we ask ourselves???)

Now a little info about fine fragrance:

Perfume is a generic word that is used in general for all fragrance but perfumes are available in 4 different types. These are

Eau de Cologne

Eau de Toilette

Eau de Parfum

and Parfum (or Pure Perfume).

Have you ever wondered what the difference is? Well read on . . .

Pure Perfume (or Parfum) is the most potent fragrance available (and the most expensive) as it is in its purest form, then the next strongest is Eau de Parfum, followed by Eau de Toilette and trailing in least strongest place is Eau de Cologne. Some fragrances are available in all of the above strengths but most are not. The most widely available is Eau de toilette, but if you see a fragrance that is available in eau de toilette and eau de parfum then it is likely that it is more or less the same fragrance but the eau de parfum will last longer and smell a bit stronger, some of the notes will stand out more than others, so you may spot a bit of a difference.

However just to confuse us some of the big companies have introduced an eau de parfum and called it by the same name as the earlier eau de toilette (like Burberry Brit, or Jean Paul Gaultier) and have changed the notes considerably, so it is essentially a similar fragrance but not just a stronger version of the same thing (don't you hate it when they do that?)
